From JLA: Earth 2, by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.
Most of Grant Morrison’s work requires a mastery level knowledge of DC continuity to get the full subtext, but this one-shot is pure shitkicking COMICS. Quitely delivers his usual masterful storytelling, anyone who complains about characters’ potato faces doesn’t appreciate the pure technique on display. The concept of an evil alternate universe gets taken to detailed extreme; the book open with a KKK airlines plane emblazoned with a burning cross crashing on Earth-1, leaving three hundred dead passengers with hearts on the right sides of their chests. Every character gets a moment, including 90s hook hand beard Aquaman, categorically the cheesiest of the Aquamen. Its being in continuity makes the book a decent entryway to Morrison’s JLA run, from which you can spring into his Batman. I give it the best score possible on Earth-2, an F-.
